More Than a Survivor

In the last post, I reflected that people of faith ought to be aware of the major issues being discussed at the important G20 Summit in Pittsburgh.

She took a job with the Kitsap County Sheriff 's Office, married twice more, and had a son. Whether Chuck Leonard married again before he met Teresa Gaethe is questionable. He did have a daughter during one of his short affairs, but they were not close.

Publisher Description

When she grew up, she looked for him and they had begun a tentative relationship that looked promising. Teresa totally captivated Chuck, and for the first time in decades he actually thought about forming a permanent bond with a woman. When Teresa saw Chuck's house, she was impressed. Painted a soft gray, it rose three stories and was set right on the lake. A small emerald velvet plateau of grass paralleled the shoreline; it looked as if it had been trimmed with manicure scissors.

Chuck was a perfectionist when it came to things like his house, his property, and his cars. He obviously had a green thumb; there were flowers blooming all over his property, along with pine, cedar, and fir trees. He was justly proud of his home. He explained to Teresa that he had built it from a cabin, digging out the hill at the lake level to facilitate two extra floors.

It was beautifully maintained and welcoming, even though it wasn't quite the big lodge that Teresa had pictured in her mind. And she had no intention of becoming a gardener; it would ruin her nails. Still, she told Chuck that she was very impressed with his house and landscaping and praised him for his work on the place.

Chuck had excellent taste in furniture, and he'd hung his grandmother's oil paintings.

His former girlfriends had picked out rugs, lamps, and other items that didn't always match. The result was eclectic, but it complemented the inside of the lake house, just as the landscaping did the exterior. Teresa didn't know anything about cars, so she didn't realize Chuck's prize Porsche was powered by a Volkswagen engine.

He had had sports cars since he was a young man and took pride in his expertise at rebuilding engines and other car parts. Some of Chuck's detailing of his assets had been all flash and little substance, but he obviously loved his home, his cars, and his plane. And he couldn't do enough to make Teresa happy. Heretofore a ladies' man who often dated several women in the same time period, Chuck Leonard was bedazzled by his Southern love. He believed her when she told him she was Jewish and her family name was Goldstein, and warned his parents and other relatives not to serve pork or ham for Thanksgiving.

He gave Teresa Hannukah cards, and did everything he could to acknowledge her religion. Chuck's sister Theresa noted almost immediately that Chuck's new bride was nice enough to her when he was around, but dismissive when they were alone. As long as Theresa agreed with her new sister-in-law, things went fairly well. And yet she sensed an odd seething anger just below Teresa's surface. I hated that we had the same name. Chuck's relatives had been prepared to welcome his new love, but she was more often a prickly pear with them instead of an affectionate relative.

I couldn't wait until the end and could get into another book. Franklin on Dec 02, As usual, this is another excellent account of true crime stories from the NorthWest area. I have read all volumnes of Ann Rule's crime stories. This book features the account of the demented wife who murdured her husband as a part of her plan to ditch her husband and travel to Hawaii to marry her other "rich" lover, but it backfired on her.

Ann Rule Talks About Charles Campbell And Another Case That Still Haunt Her

Rule's future books. Ann Rule is my favorite True Crime author. She has inspired me to major in Criminal Justice in school. Thank you Ms. By Kim F on Jan 26, Ordered this because my husband came across it and expressed an interest. One of the stories involved his cousin and family. I had heard the story from him before but was interested to see Ms.

Rules take on it. I have always liked her writing and this was just as good as any others to I have read before. I have only read the one story involving our family and it made me sad and angry that such evil can exist in this world.. This family was gone before I knew them but feel that I would have loved them after reading this book.. Anne Rule speaks for the victims in this and her other books which make them worth reading..

Anne Rule makes sure that doesn't happen. I look forward to reading the rest of this book. Not her best anthology, but still one of the best crime writers in America. I am sad that she is gone. What a loss. Try All She Ever Wanted for a good, addictive read. The Stranger Beside Me gets some good press, and rightly so.

But I Trusted You And Other True Cases Crime Files 14 Ann Rule - Ready

By Toni L. Schultz on Jun 08, This is my first Ann Rule book and will most likely be the last. I struggled through the first story that was full of soft facts and assumptions with no order that made sense to me. I'm not sure why she wrote the second story about the sale boat since it was never proven to be a murder. And I finally gave up after the third story with the paranoid son. Where was the suspense, drama, intrigue, anything that would make me keep reading? Last, Ms.

Rule I would be very careful in your character summation of Casey Anthony. By Rnchrisk on Dec 01, People definitely should serve out their full terms before they are let out of prison. There also seems to be too many places now that don't do background checks before people are hired. By Joy C Carter on Apr 20, Ann Rule is excellent crime author and does a lot of research on the crime, before writing the book. Makes her readers aware of the predators out there looking for people to victimize.

By Mjs on Feb 12, Among true crime fans there are those who love Ann Rule and those who don't. I'm proud to let my Ann-Rule-fan-flag fly. She's written some truly great books Small Sacrifices and Bitter Harvest, to name two and some that are merely better than most in the genre. Rule does have a tendency to over praise the dead - the "beautiful wife and mother", etc - but I'm willing to overlook that. I see it as part of Rule's determination to keep the victim front and center, to avoid lavishing undeserved attention on the killer.

Ann Rule wants to understand the forces that make a killer and how we as a society deal with those who commit the worst crimes. Her "Crimes Files" series doesn't allow for much space to deal with either question at any length nor to demonstrate her flair for original reporting.

This is only my second book from the series and while I'm getting used to the limitations, I'm also beginning to appreciate these books for what they are. By telling a series of stories, Rule can paint a broader picture. Rule is as fascinated as ever with how normal, how plausible killers can be every other area of their lives. But I Trusted You is packed with failures of the criminal justice system. Case after case show sociopaths freed from prisoner to commit more heinous crimes. Most of the cases are from the s - the land before DNA - and several are either unsolved or unresolved.
